In 1981, Greg and Sal Ebben purchased the Blue Spruce after getting married just the week before. It was an adventure we were not sure was going to be a success, but was something we had thought about doing for a while. With little bartending experience, we took over an establishment that served food, hosted banquets and weddings, and had an intense Friday night Fish Fry. Much remodeling was needed, but with a lot of hard work, elbow grease, and the support of people from all around, we succeeded! As of 2017, we are in our 36th year of business and we are looking forward to many more. Spruce is a wonderful place to live and we serve a wide variety of great people. We are surrounded by lakes, woods, and a game farm, which provides us with lots of tourists and hunters.
Our local regulars work in a variety of industries, including a lot of farmers. We are also on the Lena snowmobile trail, which enables us to meet new people from all around. We are open 7 days a week, serving sandwiches, soups and broasted chicken daily. We have a great fish fry on Fridays. We do chicken by the nesco for your home parties and also sell potato salad and coleslaw in large quantities. We host banquets, parties, and weddings in our spacious hall. We are located just north of the Spruce River, which has an island that has been the location of many wedding ceremonies. Our existing building has been around since the late 1920’s and it had numerous owners before we purchased it. Since then, we have made Spruce our home. Stop down or book our hall; We would love to meet you and share some of our home with you.
